The Iberoamerican region has an important heritage with diverse and significant cultural expressions, ancient cultures and subcultures, strong links between culture and nature, and rich reserves of traditional and indigenous knowledge. However, this heritage and its communities face serious risk factors, caused by social, political, economic and environmental factors, in particular climate change. This includes different types of natural hazards (earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, floods, droughts, landslides and mudslides, or forest fires), as well as anthropogenic threats such as unsustainable mass tourism, rapid urbanization, social conflicts, among others. The exposure of heritage and its communities to such threats, associated with existing vulnerabilities due to problems of governance, management, conservation, lack of awareness and professional opportunities, often result in risks to heritage. The congress will explore how Iberoamerican countries are addressing the risks affecting the region through existing risk reduction systems and mechanisms (such as prevention of new risks, mitigation, response and recovery for the heritage and their communities).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
