Protected landmarks and humanity's cultural heritage are threatened by the US-Israel war with Iran. UNESCO-listed sites, including palaces and an ancient mosque in Iran, are among the historical landmarks that have been damaged by the US-Israeli strikes, which began on February 28. UNESCO, the UN's cultural body, has expressed its concern about the cultural heritage sites, saying in a statement that it has "communicated to all parties concerned the geographical coordinates of sites on the World Heritage List as well as those of national significance, to avoid any potential damage."

Over 200 artists and cultural groups are urging the British Museum to “stop erasing Palestine” after the institution altered some wall texts in its Middle East Galleries in the wake of pressure from a pro-Israel group. Israeli and United States forces have taken aim at the city of Isfahan in the second week of their joint war on Iran, with strikes reportedly damaging several centuries-old palaces and buildings that functioned as cultural and tourism centers. While Isfahan is known for its dynastic architecture and craftwork as the former Persian capital during the Safavid Empire, the city and its namesake province are modern-day hubs for Iran’s industrial and military infrastructure, and are believed to house much of the uranium for its nuclear program. The Chehel Sotoun palace, known for its meticulously detailed frescoes, was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list in 2011 as one of nine gardens that make up the Persian Garden.
Airstrikes damage 17th-century mosque in Isfahan
The attacks, carried out by U.S.-Israeli forces, resulted in the collapse of tiles from the mosque’s arcades on Sunday morning, IRNA reported. The damage occurred around 08:00 a.m. local time near Pasdar Street, close to the Naqsh-e Jahan Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
