Next-generation core competency gaps for disaster risk management and preparedness in UNESCO-designated heritage sites
2024 - E. Eze, A. Siegmund

Heritage plays a key role in sustainability. The absence of studies examining the core competencies of UNESCO actors for disaster risk management (DRM) and preparedness at heritage sites prompted this survey. Respondents from 59 countries revealed high ratings for all competencies listed, with significant discrepancies in terms of building relationships that require attention. In addition, substantial variations in competencies were related to factors such as age, job title, and previous experiences with disaster damage. Holistic DRM competency is the main predictor of disaster preparedness at heritage sites. Thus, improved preparedness through experiential learning and coordinated knowledge-sharing mechanisms will preserve our collective heritage for a sustainable future.

The MOXY Project: Green Atmospheric Plasma-Generated Atopmic Oxygen Technology for Restoration of Works of Art
2022 - MOXY Project

The MOXY mission represents an advanced technological and green innovation, which aims to empower cultural heritage professionals to preserve works of art for the future in a green and sustainable way. MOXY is venturing into new territory with roots in NASA research, bridging the gap between physics, engineering, aerospace, cultural heritage, and sustainability science, in pursuit of a breakthrough technology to conserve otherwise untreatable materials and preserve works of art for the future in a sustainable and green way.
