This paper researches information related to why hazards develop into disasters, and investigates a detailed, risk-informed approach to better address these hazards particularly related to fire and more effectively and efficiently protecting our cultural heritage.
Fire management implications and the design of conservation strategies on fire prone landscapes within the UNESCO World Heritage Properties require the application of wildfire risk assessment at landscape level. The objective of this study was to analyze the spatial variation of wildfire risk on Holy Mount Athos in Greece.

Esta guía (68pp) persigue los siguientes objetivos: motivar a los custodios a asumir con responsabilidad el proceso de prevención y conservación de los bienes culturales patrimoniales; establecer normas y procedimientos básicos de actuación que permitan mitigar el riesgo y motivar a la ciudadanía para que tomen medidas preventivas. Está ilustrada y diseñada para interactuar con el ciudadano. Contiene un procedimiento didáctico para identificar el riesgo en el manejo de los bienes culturales, seguridad y protección ante una amenaza de erupciones volcánicas. Así mismo presenta estrategias prácticas a fin de preservar las huellas y rastros de la memoria patrimonial. Los contenidos se desarrollan por temas. Cada uno tiene recursos didácticos: datos con información relevante que incentiva la reflexión; enlaces que incorporan otras experiencias nacionales e internacionales. Al final de cada tema se presentan actividades de aplicación para asegurar la puesta en práctica de los conocimientos adquiridos en los propios contextos. Presenta un glosario de términos, bibliografía y un directorio de servicios de emergencia.

This study attempts to create a set of cultural heritage risk maps. Using flood as its primary disaster type and New Taipei City in northern Taiwan as its targeted area, this study first analyses disaster-prone areas using current global preservation approaches.

The seismic evaluation of art objects requires a multidisciplinary approach and the definition of a methodology to assess the level of safety and the possible interventions necessary for the prevention of seismic risk, seeking a compromise between safety and conservation. This article describes a first step in this direction, in which the different aspects of the procedure, from the path of knowledge of the art object to the structural analysis, were studied on the six statues of Michelangelo located in the "Galleria dei Prigioni" (Slaves Gallery) of the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence. We have shown that the general principles and criteria expressed in the "Italian Guidelines for the evaluation and mitigation of seismic risk of cultural heritage", which are specifically dedicated to masonry constructions, could be usefully extended to other works of art such as statues, starting from historical research, geometrical study and characterization of materials, to the development of specific methods of analysis. This research could be the basis for future studies on the prevention of seismic damage to art objects, including minimal interventions and specific devices, such as isolation systems.
