The document introduces a simplified methodology for risk assessment specifically developed for immovable cultural heritage. It encompasses the different components necessary for risk evaluation and can serve as a screening tool for the preliminary analysis of a large number of cultural properties, especially those with limited resources. It's also adaptable for cultural assets requiring a more detailed risk assessment.The proposed methodology is qualitative, relying on a set of structured questionnaires that integrate the key components of risk assessment: probability, consequences of the hazard, vulnerability of the property to the hazard's effects, loss of property value, and recovery capability post-incident. To illustrate its application, a case study is presented examining the seismic risk of a church in Italy damaged by the L'Aquila earthquake in 2009.
La metodología propuesta es un método cualitativo basado en un conjunto de cuestionarios estructurados que integran los principales componentes de una evaluación de riesgos: la probabilidad, consecuencias del peligro, la vulnerabilidad del bien a los efectos del peligro, la pérdida de valor de la propiedad y la capacidad de recuperación tras el suceso. Para ilustrar su aplicación se presenta un estudio de caso que analiza el riesgo sísmico de una iglesia en Italia que fue dañado por el terremoto de L'Aquila en 2009

The present document has been drawn up on the basis of the following: "Guide to preserving bibliographical materials and archival documents on paper: General considerations" (2015), by the History Department of the Comprehensive Information Center of the Central University of Ecuador, "Guide to preventive measures for cultural heritage property in the event of the threat of earthquakes" (2011) and "Guide to preventive mea-sures for cultural heritage property in the event of volcanic eruptions" (2015), by the Na-tional Cultural Heritage Institute (INPC) and "Contingency Handbook: Preventive measures for cultural heritage property in the event of volcanic eruptions", by the Ministry of Culture and Heritage (2016). It has been prepared for the purpose of disseminating knowledge and promoting support in recovering archives (repositories of memory) of the province of Manabí, in the framework of the "Local Capacity-Building Project for the Emergency Conservation of Historical Archives in Areas Affected by the April 16 Earth-quake (16A)".

HERACLES

HERACLES aims to design, validate and promote response systems/solutions for the effective resilience of CH against the effects of climate change, considering as a mandatory premise a holistic and multidisciplinary approach through the participation of different experts (end users, industry /SMEs, scientists, conservators/restorers and social experts, decision makers and politicians). This will be carried out operationally:

With the development of a system that exploits an ICT platform capable of collecting and integrating information from multiple sources in order to effectively provide complete and up-to-date knowledge of the situation and support decision making for innovative measures that improve the resilience of the CH , including new solutions for maintenance and conservation.
The effectiveness of HERACLES will be guaranteed by the design and validation of manageable methodologies also for the definition of operational procedures and guidelines for risk mitigation and management.
The strength of HERACLES solutions is their flexibility in evaluating a large amount of different information that can be modified and adapted to the specific needs of CH assets, thus ensuring general applicability.

End users, who actively participate in project activities, will play a key role.

Climate change and underwater cultural heritage: Impacts and challenges

Predictions forecast changes in climate that may affect cultural heritage in the future. Not only will our underwater cultural heritage become exposed, but also our land tangible cultural heritage will be submerged: entire nations and their cultural heritage may disappear, losing their identity. In fact, climate change has the potential to increase the sea level enough by 2100 to inundate 136 sites considered by UNESCO as cultural and historical treasures. However, climate change damage on cultural heritage is not only a warning as already it has caused damages to some cultural heritage. As a consequence, and although in the realm of archaeology preservation, in situ usually is the first option, climate change challenges the norm as it has an impact on cultural heritage. This study examines the specific climate changes that oceans will most likely suffer and how they will probably affect tangible cultural heritage. It also explores cases of heritage that already are suffering the consequences. Lastly, the article proposes a new partnership natural/cultural resources and the qualification of cultural heritage as a natural resource for its preservation, establishing the same common measures against climate change.

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, through the Spanish Cultural Heritage Institute, is responsible for publishing the volume-catalog "The recovery of the cultural heritage of the city of Lorca", which exhaustively compiles all the works and projects carried out under the Master Plan and which reflects the undoubted success of its balance sheet: 98% of the planned budget, more than 60 million euros, has been executed and 100% of it has been committed, making it an international benchmark on how to act in disaster situations affecting cultural heritage.
